Strictly Come Dancing stars HRVY and Maisie Smith are surrounded by a flurry of love life speculation.

There have been rumours of a possible romance for weeks – with reports that Strictly bosses are even "monitoring" the pair to make sure they don't break the show's strict Covid rules.

While they haven't been allowed to be near each other, the pair have exchanged flirty messages online and have both spoken about love potentially sparking.

The YouTube star and EastEnders actress are both top of this year's Strictly leaderboard, but HRVY set eyes on Maisie exactly a year ago.

Maisie first showed her prowess on the dancefloor during last year's Children In Need Special – and HRVY was watching at home.

After a gruelling week of training, the Tiffany Butcher actress defeated her fellow EastEnders cast members with her stunning routine alongside Kevin Clifton.

Fast-forward a year, HRVY, real name Harvey Leigh Cantwell, sent his rival a rather 'rude' message to let her know she had stiff competition.

HRVY decided to bring Maisie back down to earth by telling her performance was "very average" as the show's two youngest stars went head to head.

Speaking ahead of the show's launch, HRVY said: "I messaged Maisie saying 'I guess you’re my competition this year then?'

"Obviously everyone’s my competition but I saw her on the Children in Need special and she’s really good.

"I DM’d her and said it was very average just so she wasn’t too big headed about it!"

HRVY, who is paired with Janette Manrara, and Maisie, who is coupled up with Gorka Marquez, are two of the favourites to win this year's series.

Their flirtation did not end there, as the pair had a playful exchange on Instagram after he posted a half-naked snap.

After comparing HRVY to Justin Bieber, Maisie joked: "You just reminded me my spaghetti's almost done!"

HRVY replied: "Stop flirting, you love spaghetti."

And they haven't been shy in revealing how they feel about each other in interviews.

"I love Maisie, she’s a great girl and has got great banter," admitted HRVY who has had nothing but praise for his fellow Strictly star.

"When I saw her in her blue dress last week, she looked incredible. I can’t wait to see her grow and look amazing every week."

Due to strict Covid restrictions, contestants are banned from getting too close to anyone outside of their bubble.

Under the BBC show’s strict guidelines, contestants have an exclusive support bubble with their professional dancer partner and must keep socially distanced and wear masks when around everyone outside that bubble.

That means that HRVY and Maisie don't actually interact with each other very much in person.

"I’ve spoken to Maisie at the studios, but the thing is legally I’m not even allowed to go near her," said HRVY.

"So for now we are great friends, and she’s lovely. I am going to focus on the dancing, and all that stuff can come second, but who knows what will happen after the show!"

There were reports Strictly bosses were "monitoring" the pair to make sure they don't get too close and end up breaking the show's strict Covid rules.

A source told the Sun on Sunday: "Maisie and HRVY are being monitored by the producers after it’s become clear their connection could easily lead into a Strictly romance.

"They’re both young, single and hot and the thought is that the two of them could bring the other cast into risk if they break the guidelines and get closer."

HRVY added more fuel to the fire last month by admitting he was "excited" to see where things go between the pair.

Although he did confess that he's seen the EastEnders star the least amount out of all the other celebs.

Writing in OK! Magazine, singing talent HRVY shared: "I've actually seen her the least out of everyone because she's not been in any of my rehearsal spaces.

"But yeah, Maisie really is so lovely and beautiful – she's a really good friend of mine and I think she's an amazing dancer."

He added: "Not a lot can happen between us because we have to be two metres apart, but I am a little excited to see how things blossom."

Maisie hasn't escaped questions about a possible romance either – with Strictly fans picking up on their chemistry.

The EastEnders star said the timing wasn't right for her to find love with a rival, but refused to rule anything out.

"He is a beautiful-looking guy," Maisie, who plays Tiffany Butcher on Albert Square, told The Sun.

"But I have only seen him for a couple of hours a week so I am still enjoying getting to know him.

"I don't know what would happen in the future, but for now we are getting along really well as friends."

While HRVY was very recently pressed on the rumours by Capital Radio host Roman Kemp

Pressed on the romance rumours by Roman Kemp on this morning,

HRVY remarked: "Do you know what, she's great, she's a very good dancer, she's very beautiful, she's a lovely girl, but right now, it's not like I can see or touch anyone anyway, not that I'm touching anyone, but because of all the Covid restrictions what can you do, right now I'm going to focus on the dancing but Maisie is a great girl."

When pushed for an answer, HRVY claimed they were just friends, then under intense questioning added: "You never know, you never know."
