The mayor of Mohamed Salah’s hometown has labelled claims that the Liverpool star breached social distancing guidelines as “false”.
On Friday, it was confirmed that the Egyptian had returned a second positive test for Covid-19, meaning he will now be forced to self isolate for 10 days.
That will see him miss his country’s next two fixtures, while his club sweat over when he will be available again.
A statement shared by the Egypt FA read: "Egyptian National Team and Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has undergone a second test and results have confirmed that Salah tested positive for Covid 19.

"All necessary medical precautions have been taken in line with the global medical protocol and under the supervision of Dr. Mohamed Sultan, Head of the Medical Committee at the EFA, as well as Dr Mohamed Abou El Ela, Egyptian Natioonal Team doctor.
"While the first swab has offered a positive result, the Egyptian FA has decided to carry out a second test to confirm the result.
"Salah is keeping a high spirit and is not showing any symptoms of the virus. He has been isolated and the National Team's doctor is liasing with Dr Jim Moxon, Head of Liverpool FC's medical staff, regarding this matter."
Hours before news of his positive tests were reported, footage had emerged of Salah celebrating his brother Nasr’s wedding in Cairo.

He was pictured and filmed without a face mask or socially distancing, with footage posted on social media showed him dancing with other guests.
However, despite that footage, the mayor of Nagrig, which is around 131 kilometres away from the wedding, has said that suggestions he breached any protocols were incorrect.
"All what has been said is false, it does not make sense to hug someone five times in the same wedding,” Shtayyeh told Goal.
“Also Salah was extremely cautious during the one-hour wedding, he never took his mask off except for taking photographs.
“Salah is fine now, he does not show any symptoms, I talked to his father and uncle.
“Trezeguet was the only [other Egypt] player who came to the wedding with Salah, he was also extremely cautious.”

Joe Gomez breaks silence on injury with message to Liverpool fans
In September, Egypt allowed weddings to be held in open-air-venues, with invitees capped at a maximum of 300.
Salah’s self isolation period means he is guaranteed to miss Liverpool’s clash with Leicester City on November 22, while the club are seeking clarification on when he will be allowed to return to Mersyside.
It's the latest in a cruel run of injury setbacks for the champions. Along with their top-scorer, Klopp is facing up to the fact that three of his starting back-four are set for extended spell on the sidelines.
Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold were already suffering with the injuryes, with the former expected to be out for most of the season.
But on Thursday, it was confirmed that Joe Gomez had gone under the knife for a knee tendon injury he picked up whilst on international duty. Whilst a full prognosis has yet to be offered by the club, they have suggested that the 23-year-old will miss a "significant portion" of the remaining campaign.
