Hugo Lloris has backed Paul Pogba to raise his level despite his situation at Manchester United not being the best.

Pogba has struggled for playing time of late at United, having only started once in United's past four Premier League games.

The most notable of these games being the one against Everton. With pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the United boss in desperate need of a win he left the World Cup winner on the bench.

The Frenchman's last start came in the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal in which he, and his team-mates, put in a flat performance.

Pogba did start in France's 2-0 friendly defeat to Finland last week and his body language was criticised.

France boss Didier Deschamps defended his attitude and claimed his current situation at United is not good.

“He’s not at his best, obviously. I knew that before," he told RMC Sport .

“That game was meant to get him some rhythm. "He knew he’d only have 60 minutes. It’s hard to take positives. Obviously Paul isn’t in the best period.

"Like all players who have a club situation that is not positive, they are also impacted mentally.

"I know him well enough and it can happen at some points."

Tottenham captain Lloris also gave his two cents on the subject.

"He lacks a bit of rhythm, compared to his situation at his club," he said. "Like [Raphael] Varane or [Antoine] Griezmann, he comes with a smile," the Spurs captain told a press conference ahead of Les Bleus' UEFA Nations League clash with Portugal on Saturday night.

"We see him ready to meet the challenges, the jersey of Les Bleus is close to his heart.

"He is one of the leaders of this team. He has a long history [with the national team] and also knows how to raise his level when necessary, especially when there is adversity.

"Tomorrow (Saturday), he will be keen to do well."
