Chelsea were the busiest Premier League club in terms of summer recruitment, spending over £200million on bolstering Frank Lampard’s first-team squad.

But if reports are to be believed, there may be more business to be done when the January transfer window opens.

There’s also plenty of interesting new details emerging from the deals that did and didn’t happen before the summer transfer window closed last month.

The coming weeks are set to be exceptionally busy for Lampard’s Blues, with 11 more matches in all competitions before the turn of the year.

If fringe players continue on the periphery, there’s every chance they push for a move away mid-season, while the prospect of injuries could force Marina Granovskaia’s hand when it comes to new additions.

With all that in mind, here are the latest transfer rumours coming out of Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea were willing to allow Antonio Rudiger to move to Premier League rivals Tottenham on loan, but the player himself turned down the chance.

The Germany international has fallen down the pecking order following the arrival of Thiago Silva in the summer. He’s made a single start in the Champions League, but is yet to feature in the Premier League this campaign.

According to The Athletic, Chelsea have softened their stance on doing business with clubs they consider direct rivals, but the player himself thought his life would be “made difficult” by going to one of Chelsea’s biggest rivals.

Without regular opportunities, it remains to be seen whether Rudiger will go out on loan in January in a bid to play himself into contention for Germany’s squad for the Euros.

Frank Lampard has spoken directly to Chelsea loanee Ross Barkley after his impressive run of form for Aston Villa in recent weeks.

The 26-year-old midfielder has scored two goals and registered a further assist for in-form Villa, and appears to have developed a strong partnership with Jack Grealish for Dean Smith’s side.

90min (via Birmingham Live ) report that Villa may struggle to sign him on a permanent deal next summer as Lampard still sees him as potentially having a role to play at his parent club going forward.

He remains contracted at Stamford Bridge until 2023.

Petr Cech advised Lampard to bring Edouard Mendy to Chelsea, the Blues boss revealed in a recent interview with Norwegian station TV2 (via Sport Witness ).

Cech, who retired last summer but was named in Chelsea’s Premier League squad as an emergency back-up option after returning to the club as a technical adviser, also originally joined the club from Ligue 1 outfit Rennes back in 2004.

“I trust him [Cech] when it comes to players in that position. I am very pleased. We have studied him carefully and Cech felt he had great qualities,” Lampard said.

Mendy has made a strong start to life between the sticks at Chelsea, conceding just two goals in his first eight appearances in all competitions.
