Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson will play a key role in the club honouring legendary stopper Ray Clemence before kick-off against Leicester City at Anfield on Sunday.

Clemence – who sits equal fourth on Liverpool's all-time appearance list with 665 – passed away at the age of 72 last week, with the club paying tribute to him on social media by releasing a video of his greatest moments.

The Skegness-born goalkeeper, who won 61 England caps, picked up three European Cups and five league titles during his time at Anfield before leaving to forge a successful career at Tottenham, where he played for seven years.

Spurs paid their own respects to Clemence before their win over Manchester City on Saturday, and now LIverpool will follow suit ahead of taking on the Foxes.

A replica of the shirt Clemence wore in his final game for the Reds – the 1981 European Cup final against Real Madrid – will be worn by Alisson during the warm-up before the game, which will also be preceded by a minute's applause.

The shirt – which has been donated by the LFC museum – will then be signed by Liverpool's players and auctioned off for Prostate Cancer UK.

Reds captain Jordan Henderson has also paid his respects in the match programme.

"I wasn't lucky enough to see Ray play, but over the years I have seen enough videos of him in action to understand why he has long been regarded as Liverpool's greatest ever goalkeeper," he wrote in his captain's column.

"The standards he set have stood the test of time and when you see the likes of Alisson Becker, John Achterberg, Pepe Reina and so many others describing him as a legend, it tells you everything that you need to know.

"In my first few years at Liverpool I often heard people say that it must be hard for the current players because we would be judged by the achievements of the players of the past, but I never saw it that way.

"When I look at what someone like Ray did in his famous green shirt, it inspires me rather than intimidates me."
