The Crown’s Erin Doherty grabs bargains at Lidl after winning praise as Princess Anne

The Crown's Erin Doherty went on a right royal bargain hunt as she picked up some groceries at budget supermarket Lidl.

The 28-year-old reigned in the excitement after playing Princess Anne in the hit Netflix show as she grabbed some essentials with girlfriend Sophie Melville.

She looked a far cry from her regal on-screen persona as she stocked up in south east London.

Sporting a green fleece, jogging bottoms and a woolly hat over her braided hair, she slipped into the store unnoticed by fellow shoppers.

Erin has won a legion of fans with her portrayal of the sharp-tongued Anne, the young Princess Royal, in smash hit Netflix show.

But her approach to fame clearly hasn't changed.

She enjoyed some shopping at the value supermarket on Saturday as she filled her trolley before heading home.

The up-and-coming star has recently been discussing her rise – and opened up about the biggest issue she faced.

They didn't forget to bring their own bags as they went unnoticed by their fellow shoppers

Erin said she really had to get to grips with being around famous people after landing the role of a lifetime.

She said: "When I first got the job, I thought 'Erin you need to get rid of all your love and admiration, in the nicest way possible, for these people'.

"Because I would just be staring at them in the scene unable to believe I was in a room with them.

"I think that was the hardest thing, it’s a challenge playing that character but actually that was just fun, whereas the hardest mental decision I had to make was to not be a fangirl.

"I wanted to tell these people how they’d inspired me but it’s such a difficult one because then you have to do a scene with them. It doesn’t work."

During a recent on-camera questionnaire for audiobook library Audible, Erin was asked what her greatest achievement was.

She looked lovingly at Sophie before answering "my relationship".
