A 12-year-old schoolboy died of multiple stab wounds just days before his birthday, an inquest has heard.
Roberts Buncis was found dead on a patch of common land in the quiet village of Fishtoft, Lincolnshire, just after 10am on Saturday, December 12 last year – two days before he would have turned 13.
An inquest into his death revealed the provisional results of a post mortem examination by forensic pathologist Professor Guy Rutty gave the cause of death as "stab wounds to neck, chest and abdomen," Lincolnshire Live reports.
Detective Inspector Andy McWatt, of Lincolnshire Police, told the hearing at the Myle Cross Centre in Lincoln: "Police were called to Alcorn Green at 10.22 am on December 12 following reports of a male being found dead in a wooded area behind that green."

He said paramedics attended the scene, the deceased was initially believed to have been a 30-year-old man, and that the police investigation continues.
Coroner's officer Darren Sear said that Roberts, born in Liepaja, Latvia, on December 14, 2007, was formally identified by his dad Edgars Buncis.
In tributes paid to the schoolboy after his death Roberts was described as a "kind" and "popular" student at Haven High Academy, in Boston, and destined for a "life of joy, happiness and success."

A 13-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of murder has been released under investigation and a 19-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder has been released with no further action.
Coroner Mr Smith suspended the inquiry due to the ongoing criminal investigation.
He said: "The matter will be resumed following the conclusion of ongoing criminal processes."
