Kim Kardashian and Kanye West tied the knot in 2014 and, as to be expected, it was one lavish affair with no expense spared.

But one thing that could not be managed was rapper Kanye's vision for the romantic day – which was being tweaked right up to the moment guests were seated to watch the union on May 24, 2014 in Fort di Belvedere in Florence.

Despite the big day – thought to have cost $6million – being shrouded in secrecy, details were leaked afterwards about how the wedding didn't run as smoothly as the couple wanted.

And as reports emerge that the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star, 40, and 43-year-old Stronger hitmaker – who share kids North, six, Saint, four, Chicago, two, and one-year-old Psalm – are set to divorce after six years of marriage, here is a look back at the outrageous tantrums, last-minute changes and awkward moments that plagued their nuptials.

  • Kim Kardashian and Kanye West 'getting divorced' as 'she is done with him'

According to a Page Six insider, Kanye had a number of strops about the party space just hours before the wedding began.

The guest dished that Kanye objected to the layout of the toilets, which were housed inside a giant 15m tall gold box. It was situated right next to the dinner tables at the reception with a bar in front of it. The huge metallic box earned the nickname Torre di Bagni Oro – translated to The Gold Toilet Tower – from the Italians on-site.

Kanye was keen on the gold toilets but he was not fond of how the bar looked in front of the loos and decided to lend his handyman skills to the project.

Kanye returned one hour before the wedding and didn’t like the all-white bar that was in front of the [49-foot tall] Gold Toilet Tower. He took a saw and started sawing it in half himself. Two men held the bar stable as he sawed, and sawed, into the bar, defacing the entire front, screaming at everyone around him. He said it looked like a bar from Texas," the guest shared.

And it was not just the booze area that wound him up, as Kanye reportedly requested that the 80 moving lights he ordered to be installed around the dance floor to be removed.

The Yeezy creator apparently declared: "I’m in the centre of this party, and I’m the only one people need to see. The rest of these people don’t need lights on them."

That was not the only gripe Kanye had with the look of the venue.

When he cast his eyes on the 100,000-euro audio system, described by one producer as the single best system in Europe, he said he didn't like the look of the speakers and wanted them to be invisible.

He reportedly fumed: "You Italians don't understand my minimalist style."

The superstar had the music system removed and decided to play the wedding music from an iPod.

Another thing that was a disaster was the couple's vision for the seating arrangements.

Guests sat at a long table crafted out of an expensive slab of marble, which was then engraved by Italian stonemasons with the names of each person attending and where they were to sit.

  • Kim Kardashian and Kanye's $40m mansion at the heart of divorce neither want to give up

The job was completed the night prior to the wedding but a number of mishaps – that were unable to be erased – occurred.

Names were misspelt, entourages were not included and opera legend Andrea Bocelli – who sang as Kim walked down the aisle – was forgotten altogether.

After being told he was invited as a guest he was asked to go home after his performance, as the wedding planners did not provide a seat for the blind singer.

The bride and groom's first dance as husband and wife is often a key moment remembered by guests.

Unfortunately, Kim and Kanye's time on the dancefloor was remembered for all the wrong reasons as it went on for five songs and was extremely awkward.

The couple was serenaded by close friend John Legend, who sat behind a piano to deliver an intimate performance, but due to Kim's lack of musicality it made for uncomfortable viewing.

A clip shared by Kim's mum Kris Jenner, a year after the wedding, showed the duo swaying side to side in the centre of an empty dancefloor and the couple did more kissing than dancing.
