Amid widespread reports of her marriage to Kanye West coming to an end, Kim Kardashian has hired celebrity divorce lawyer Laura Wasser.
But despite apparently prepping to end their six-year marriage, the reality star has yet to file for divorce.
This is despite the fact that it is widely accepted the couple have been living apart for months, with Kim making their $40million Los Angeles mansion the base for her and their four children while Kanye is in residence at his $14million Wyoming ranch.
Reports as to why Kim, 40, has hesitated in making things official vary.
Are the two determined to split their extensive yet complicatedly intertwined marital assets before they hit the courts? Is romantic at heart Kim still holding onto dreams of making her marriage work?
Or is she simply ensuring it's the right decision for their four children before making an irreversible decision? And are concerns for Kanye's mental health a consideration?

One theory is that the couple are quietly attempting to come to a private resolution before making anything official.
Sources told Page Six : "Kim got Kanye to go up there [Wyoming] so they could live separate lives and quietly get things sorted out to separate and divorce. She's done."
They have extensive financial investments, including the Calabasas home where Kim is currently based.
Kanye masterminded the complete multi-million renovation of the mansion alongside Belgian designer Axel Vervoordt, which featured in Architectural Digest.
But it is Kim who has roots in the area, where the majority of her family also live.
A separate source tells Page Six: "Kim is trying to get Kanye to turn over the Calabasas house to her, because that’s where the kids are based and growing up. That is their home."
Kim and Kanye, seen in 2019, are said to be ready to divorce
But complicating this seemingly workable solution is the huge expense of the property – the couple spent around $40million for the house alone, before their estimated $20million renovations.
The source said: "She owns all the land and adjoining lots around the house but Kanye owns the actual house. They’ve both put a lot of money into renovating it."
Another suggestion is that Kim is taking her time so she can put their children first.

Sources tell E! : "She wants to make sure she's making the right decision for the kids."
And they add: "It's not about the marriage anymore, she'll always care for Kanye but it's over between them.
"Kim is only focused on what's best for the kids. It's a tough decision for her and she's figuring it out."
Another thing Kim may be considering is Kanye's mental health.
She has publicly addressed this in the past, talking about how she tries to help Kanye, who has bipolar disorder.
Kim told Vogue: "I’ll do everything to be supportive and help to calm the situation."

According to Us Weekly, Kim thinks she has done all she can to help her husband of six years.
A source told the publication: "Kim is done dealing with Kanye’s unpredictable behaviour, she has tried to get him into treatment for his mental health and all attempts have been unsuccessful."
"No one can tell Kanye what to do other than Kanye."
Kanye himself has made no secret of considering divorce, tweeting in July: "I been trying to get divorced since Kim met with Meek at the Warldolf [sic] for 'prison reform'."

He was seemingly referring to a criminal justice summit attended by Kim and rapper Meek Mill in November 2018 – before their youngest child Psalm was born in May the next year.
He also called momager Kris Jenner "Kris Jong-Un".
Whether the two do divorce remains to be seen. One thing for certain, however, is that their marriage is no longer the love story it once was.
