A girl tragically died on Christmas Day after collapsing at home and becoming locked in her own body.

Abigail Johnston, 9, had been visited by Santa just hours before her death at Clare House in Liverpool on December 25.

She’s been described as "a kind, loving and intelligent young lady" by her devastated family, Liverpool Echo reports.

Abigail, known by her loved ones as "Abbi", was rushed to hospital back in September after collapsing at home with her family.

Doctors told the family their daughter had suffered a bleed on the brain and further tests revealed she had a very aggressive and terminal tumour.

At the time, Abbi was given just days to live but the strong little girl powered through for over four months, making her entire family proud.
