Cheryl Baker has said that the coronavirus pandemic has left her "broke" and struggling to pay her taxes as her income sources were closed down.

The 66-year-old Bucks Fizz singer has spoken out about her money woes, saying the the cancellation of a tour has left her penniless.

The Eurovision winner still performs with Jay Aston, 59, and Mike Nolan, 66, under new name The Fizz but the band had to postpone its Up Close and Personal Tour last year and they do not know when they will be able to resume due to the spread of Covid-19.

Cheryl has said that the only money she has earned since the first lockdown was from the band's one-off streamed live show, but this was back in October.

Speaking to OK! magazine, Cheryl said: "We had one virtual gig and that was our only income. It's been ridiculously hard.

"I owe lots of tax… I physically haven't got the money to pay anybody because I'm broke."

Giving more detail about her last 12 months, the singer continued: "It's been bittersweet for me. It means that I haven't worked for a year. We had one virtual gig and that was our only income. It's been ridiculously hard.

"I owe lots of tax and VAT because I had a great year three years ago.

"But because I had that great year, I now can't claim anything from the government. So, I've had to ring the VAT and tax people and say, 'You're going to have to put it on hold.'"

Cheryl added: "But that's the only thing I can do right now because I physically haven't got the money to pay anybody because I'm broke.

"But, I am well and that is far more important."
