Liverpool's problems at the back have not prompted them to sign a new centre-half in January.

The Reds are without several key players in defence which has affected them this season as they look to retain their crown.

Jurgen Klopp though has not signed any new faces this month, but may look to do so in the summer when the market is less hectic.

David Alaba continues to be a big name linked with a switch to Anfield while Georginio Wijnaldum is potentially heading out of Liverpool.

The midfielder's contract is winding down and speculation of a move to Barcelona refuses to go away.

Here are the latest transfer rumours for the red half of Merseyside.

Liverpool eye Barella

Liverpool and Tottenham are both eyeing a possible deal for Inter Milan's Nicolo Barella, reports Calciomercato .

The midfielder has a deal at San Siro until 2024, but a move could be secured should either side come up with the right fee.

Barella only joined Inter on a permanent basis back in the summer following an impressive loan spell.

Klopp has no shortage of midfielders but Jose Mourinho is still in the process of fine tuning his Tottenham squad.

Reds still considering Alaba

Real Madrid are still favourites to sign David Alaba but Liverpool are still considering a late move, reports Bild .

Centre-half has been a major problem for the Reds this term and the Austrian is poised to move on for free in the summer.

Alaba is extremely versatile which is a massive asset and Klopp opted not to sign a fourth defender when Dejan Lovren moved on in the summer.

He has so far done no business in January meaning he may seek summer recruits and the Merseysiders can begin negotiating with the player.

Wijnaldum's Barca desire

Danny Murphy believes the connection between Dutch players and Barcelona will be a factor in Wijnaldum's future.

The midfielder has less than six months to run on his deal and is linked with a switch to the Catalan giants.

Johan Cruyff served the club as a player and manager which has seen several Holland internationals follow in his footsteps.

He said: “In Holland, for example, there are a lot of players who looked up to the likes of Johan Cruyff, Koeman, people like that.

“Maybe Barcelona is a dream [Wijnaldum] has always had. Maybe he feels at Liverpool with some of the signings, that he’s being a little bit edged out."
