Prince Harry and Meghan's first child Archie is said to be "very happy" about the arrival of his newborn sister Lilibet, sources have said.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced on Sunday that Lilibet "Lili" Diana Mountbatten-Windsor was born at a hospital in Santa Barbara, California, on Friday morning.

Lilibet arrived weighing 7lb 11oz after her older brother Archie was born in May 2019, one year after Harry and Meghan's fairytale wedding at Westiminster Abbey.

News of both mum and daughter being healthy as they settle at home came as a huge relief to fans around the world after Meghan revealed heart-wrenching details of how she suffered a miscarriage last year.

And now sources have been quoted by the London Evening Standard saying: “Archie and his parents are excited to welcome the new addition to their family. He’s very happy to have a little sister.”

Buckingham Palace said in a statement the whole family had been informed and were "delighted" with the news.

The couple announced the were expecting a second child on Valentine's Day with the release of two gorgeous black and white pictures.

The relaxed shot showed the couple sitting on the grass, with Meghan lying with her head in her husband's lap.

They then told Oprah in their bombshell interview in March that their much-wanted child would be a baby girl.

Meghan's estranged father Thomas Markle was also said to be pleased to hear of his granddaughter's birth, as the 76-year-old told Sun Online he wished them “all my love”.

He added: “I’m very pleased that my daughter and my new granddaughter had a successful delivery. I wish them all my love and the best of luck.”

The baby's name has been carefully picked with touching nod to both Harry's grandmother and mother, though there is another hidden reference to Meghan's mother Doria.

The choice of the name has largely been seen as a peace offering to the Queen after Harry and Meghan's repeated public attacks against The Firm in the past few months.

The couple quit their lives as senior royals in March last year and are now living in a £11.1 mansion in Montecito.

Montecito is a popular area with celebrities, and Meghan and Harry have a lot of very famous neighbours – including several of their close friends.

Oprah lives in a huge $90million mansion nearby, while Ellen DeGeneres, who visited Meghan and Harry at their Windsor home shortly after Archie was born, has several homes in the area.

On her blog Goop, neighbour Gwyneth Paltrow says the area is one of the "best things about Southern California".
