EastEnders aired heartbreak for Callum Highway, as he waited for news on the condition of his colleague and pal Fitzy.

Fellow police officer Fitzy was stabbed on duty during a shift with Callum, when a suspect turned a knife on them both.

Callum screamed out for help and called for assistance as Fitzy feared he was dying, while bleeding out on the ground.

While Fitzy's condition remained unknown, Callum blamed himself after deciding to go after the suspect instead of calling it in near the end of their shift.

Fitzy wasn't keen but decided to help Callum chase the individual, only to get stabbed.

While it wasn't Callum's fault, with a colleague reminding him he was only doing his job, he struggled in the fallout and believed he was to blame.

He didn't open up to anyone including Whitney or Ben despite it being clear he wasn't coping with what had happened.

Callum did tell the colleague that he thought he'd find incidents like the stabbing easier to deal with by now, but that he didn't.

He was urged to give it time, but by the end of the episode Callum was seen punching a wall as he couldn't process what had happened earlier that day.

While alone in the Square, Callum broke down in tears with it clear he wasn't okay.

The BBC soap confirmed the character will struggle with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in the fallout of the attack on his friend and colleague – with him having experienced the disorder in the past back in 2018.

Whether Callum will open up to his loved ones remains to be seen.
