Andrew Neil fought back tears on This Morning on Wednesday as he thanked hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield for their kindness and bid them goodbye.
His newest venture, GB News, is set to launch on Sunday, and so he will no longer be a regular guest during panel debates on the ITV show.
While discussing the daily topics with Royal Editor Camilla Tominey, the conversation moved to former Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan.
Phil asked Andrew if the rumours about Piers joining GB News were true, and he confirmed Piers would not be joining the network for its launch – but discussions were still underway.
Andrew Neil broke down in tears as he thanked Phil and Holly
He described the network's launch during a pandemic as "fraught" and said new technology they are using is proving difficult.
At the end of the debate, Andrew said: "Listen, I wanted to come on today to thank you."
"Aw, well thank you! It's been wonderful having you here this year!" Holly told him.
"What are you thanking us for?" Phillip asked.
Andrew told the This Morning hosts they were "so kind" as they wished him luck
Andrew responded: "For being so kind, wonderful!" and his voice cracked with emotion.
"Andrew, that's a lovely thing to say! Thank you very much, and good luck on Sunday!" said Phil.
Holly added: "Thank you, hope it goes well, thank you, you are soft sometimes!"
Of the hosts set to join the network, Andrew revealed: "The one thing that’s been great is the line-up of presenters, they’re fantastic.
Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield looked touched
"They’re Britain, they’re modern Britain," he added.
"And Piers is amongst them?" asked Phillip.
"Piers is not amongst the launch, we’ll still discussing Piers," said Andrew.
“The problem is, I hope your bosses are watching in, this network is paying him far too much to do nothing so he doesn’t have to make up his mind!" he added.
