That’s one way to return the compliment. Gazza today revived his ‘Euro 96’ hairdo after Phil Foden aped the famous blonde crop.

The England legend also urged Manchester City ace Foden, 21, to copy him some more, by doing his ‘Dentist’s Chair’ celebration if he scores in this year’s Euros.

While fans immediately drew comparisons between the two hairdos, Gazza, 54 was more interested on Foden following in his creative footsteps on the pitch.

That includes celebrating in the the Geordie did after his individual wondergoal against Scotland 25 years ago.

Gazza said: “I love to watch him play – we have so many exciting youngsters coming through.

He added: “If Phil Foden scores, he should do the Dentist’s chair – and I will pour the cocktail down his throat.

“I think that goal was my greatest in an England shirt, and the celebration made it the greatest moment.

“So tell Phil Foden I will take him on one on one in my back garden.

Back then Gazza scored with a volley after flicking the ball over defender Colin Hendry to all but condemn the Scots to an early exit.

He then cemented his legendary status by lying down on the pitch while teammates fired jets of water down his throat.

It came after a boozy pre-tournament session in which the Geordie legend and other players had spirits poured down their necks while stapped into a dentist’s chair in a bar.

While Foden is unlikely to follow those antics, he proudly revealed his Gazza look on Tuesday on Instagram adding with the words: “Euro 96 vibe”.

Celebrity barber Sheldon Edwards – known as HD Cutz – is understood to have styled Foden, who is unfazed by comparisons to one England’s greatest stars.

“I remember watching highlights on the TV of Gazza – an unbelievable player,” Foden said.

“The full nation know what he did, so it won’t be too bad if I try to bring a bit of Gazza on to the pitch.

But he added: “I don’t think you can listen too much to what people are saying. I have to try and keep my feet on the ground and just being me.”

As the squad reported to team HQ, St George’s Park, Burton-on-Trent, Gazza, 54, also spoke of his hopes for the delayed 2020 tournament, which finally kicks off on Friday.

He believes the new squad can recreate the spirit of Euro 96, when England reached the semis, and inspire a nation emerging from lockdown.

“I have to say that the kids are really good,” Gazza added.

“I am still patriotic. This is a really good England side, and I am looking forward to the games.”

Dad of one Foden, who is expecting a second child with girlfriend Rebecca Cooke, has a had a breathrough season, scoring nine league goals as City bossed the Premier League and winning his first international cap.

He could play a huge part in the tournament which sees England play the Scots at Wembley after their opener against Croatia on Sunday .

Some fans are also hoping he does a “Gazza” if he scores on June 18.
