Roman Kemp has posted a heartbreaking message on the day his best friend Joe Lyons would have celebrated his 32nd birthday.

The 28-year-old Capital Breakfast host added a pinch of humour to the post which paid tribute to the radio producer who died suddenly last August.

The DJ said that he had originally planned to pretend that Joe was celebrating his 40th, as he joked about his idea for a prank on Instagram.

The moving tribute included a gallery of photos of Joe, who started as a work colleague before becoming Roman's BFF.

Included in the pics were snaps of Joe asleep on a plane, as Roman teases that he might pour some alcohol into his open mouth.

Roman added: "PS this is the only time I will post a Spurs shirt," joking about a pic that he added of Joe wearing a Tottenham Hotspurs top.

Roman's mum Shirley, of Wham! fame, also sent her love as she wrote alongside three red heart emojis: "Happy Birthday Joe."

One of Roman's followers added: "He’d be so proud of you and what you're doing."

Roman met Joe when he started at Capital in 2014, with Joe becoming his producer and mentor, and on his death, Roman said that it "ripped his life apart".

Roman said: “He was with me right from my very first show. He taught me everything I didn’t know about sitting in a radio studio.”

He has since received praise for fronting a BBC documentary in which he spoke about the sudden death of his friend.
