Anna Nightingale's character has endured the mother-in-law from hell in the form of Kim Tate.

So it's a good thing the Emmerdale actress' personal life is far less complicated than that of Andreas.

It was a dream come true when Anna landed the "badass" role back in 2019, but she soon started to doubt herself while suffering from 'imposter syndrome'.

"It’s always that little voice in your head that goes, ‘Are you sure you can do this?’ It’s imposter syndrome. A lot of actors have it," Anna revealed back in 2019.

"As a person I’m a bit of a worrier, but I’ve got good people around me who told me I could do it. Plus, the Tate name started to seep into me and I was like, ‘I can do this!’"

It's been a whirlwind for Anna, who went to the famous Brit School in London alongside pop sensations such as Amy Winehouse, Adele and Jessie J.

But this came after she suffered a traumatic time at school.

While growing up in Manchester, Anna attended an all-girls high school and suffered a nightmarish bullying ordeal.

"I was bullied horrifically at school. I had a frizzy perm, acne and glasses. I went to an all-girls school and did very well academically, but it was horrible," she told the Daily Star.

"I feel very passionately about girls supporting each other. No-one wins if you don’t. I got beaten up a couple of times, but I had one really good friend, and her and my mum helped keep my confidence.

"Sadly it’s something most people experience in some shape or form. I went off to the Brit School and never looked back."

At the age of 16, Anna left home for London to attend the Brit School and would have been happy with a music career.

But she went straight into the theatre before appearing in Ashes to Ashes in 2099, alongside Dean Andrews who now plays Will Taylor in Emmerdale.

Away from acting, Anna is with long-term partner Darren who she met over a decade ago through work.

She told Inside Soap: "He used to work in music, and we kind of just met through some mutual friends. We worked together for a year or so, and then one evening I think I probably had too many glasses of wine, and I declared my undying love for him."

Anna joked that Daren would recall the story differently and she worried she had ruined their friendship: "But fortunately the feelings were reciprocated, and the rest is history."

The couple have four-year-old daughter Autumn together, who hilariously tells Darren when Anna is kissing other men on the TV.

"She has changed my life. My partner’s not an actor, but he gets it – although he still finds it weird watching me on TV," Anna told the Daily Star in 2019.

"Autumn was watching the other day and said, ‘Daddy, Mummy’s kissing someone else!’ It was brilliant.

"And there have been times when she’ll be watching an episode and I’ll walk through the door and she says ‘Daddy, Mummy’s not on TV any more.’ It’s so cute."

The mum-of-one splits her time between her home in London and family in Manchester while filming Emmerdale in Leeds.

So Anna felt blessed that she was able to spend lots of time with her young daughter and partner in lockdown.

Andrea was only supposed to be gone for a few days when she left last year, but it ended up being weeks due to filming being halted.

Discussing how she spent lockdown with Lorraine Kelly last June, Anna said: "It's been amazing and I think the nicest thing about this, it's just been such a god send having a little one during this time.

"There's nothing like a young kid to just put everything in perspective and also just to brighten up your day. She's amazing.

"We tried to explain to her what's going on but in a really sensitive way and she just wakes up every day and teaches you to just live in the moment. She loves to dance, we use music and dance to relax as a family. To literally shake it all off."

When Anna first started on the soap she feels the public were split into two distinctive camps, those telling her to leave Kim Tate along and other wanting her to go in hard.

Anna got a confidence boost when her on-screen mother-in-law got in touch, with actress Claire King saying she was excited to work together.

Describing what it's like on set, Anna said: "It's such a lovely place to work, everybody is so warm. There's a really nice feeling of unity, more than ever.

"It's been a humbling and bonding time, so coming back on set it feels like everyone is in it together, wantsto help each other out and do their best.

Emmerdale viewers were worried Andrea had left for good in June last year when she fled the village after exposing cheating husband Jamie in the Woolpack.

Hurt beyond belief, Andrea decided she couldn't watch them together and tried to run away with daughter Millie, but eventually left her with Jamie.

But Anna's character made a shock return in September and gave her blessing to Jamie and Belle, only for her husband to drop the bombshell he wanted a divorce.

Andrea is once again at the centre of a controversial storyline this week, which has left some fans threatening to boycott the soap.

It all revolves around her adorable dog Princess, who is put in danger after being left in a boiling hot car.
