In a boost to Barca though, La Vanguardia report that Moriba is set to reject a move to Manchester and instead sign a new contract with the La Liga side.

They state that the Catalan club have already moved to extend Moriba’s stay in Barcelona and are set to thrash out a deal in a meeting next week.

It is believed he will sign a three-year deal and will become a permanent member of the first-team, potentially taking the place that would have been filled by Gini Wijnaldum had he joined the club.

One of the main areas that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to upgrade in ahead of next season is at centre-back.

Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof have failed to prove they can be quality partners for Harry Maguire in the long-term.

With that in mind, United have made Raphael Varane one of their top targets this summer, with the Frenchman ready to leave the Bernabeu.

Varane has become one of the world’s best defenders during his time with Madrid, but is refusing to sign a new contract, with his current deal expiring next year.

Los Blancos are keen to cash in on the 28-year-old, but had slapped a £60million valuation on the defender.

But with United failing to bite on that hefty price, Mundo Deportivo report that Madrid have now slashed that figure to a figure in the region of £43m.
