Jose Mourinho has once again taken aim at Luke Shaw by insisting that Ben Chilwell would be a better option at left-back for England than his former player.

Mourinho worked with Shaw for two-and-a-half years during his time as Manchester United manager between 2016-2018.

But the two had a fractious relationship, and Mourinho regularly targeted the defender and singled him out for criticism after games.

Shaw has enjoyed a superb season at Old Trafford, but is still facing stiff competition from Chelsea's Champions League winner Chilwell in the left-back position.

And when asked on talkSPORT which of the two he would select for England's first Euros match against Croatia on Sunday, Mourinho unsurprisingly went for the Blues defender.

"Left back I would go with Chilwell, I wouldn't think twice," Mourinho said. "I know that he plays normally at Chelsea with five [in defence] but he is intelligent, he covers the space and the diagonals inside very well.

"He is dangerous in attack, he is good in the air, he is good at set-pieces, he can defend well the possible long build-up from Croatia in the first phase."

When pressed on why he would drop Shaw, Mourinho continued: "No, I think he has had a good season. Clearly an evolution in terms of emotion and professionalism.

"But I think Chilwell has something more, especially with the ball, the way he thinks and how he is calm under pressure. I like Chilwell."

Mourinho also had his say on the Three Lions should select offensively, and plumped for Jack Grealish above the likes of Raheem Sterling, Jadon Sancho or Marcus Rashford.

"Harry Kane is untouchable, Jack Grealish is untouchable and the best position for Grealish is coming from the left," he added.

"For me, Marcus Rashford can only play there. When he plays on the right, he is completely lost. He is very good on the left attacking spaces.

"But Grealish for me is tremendous and what he creates and his personality. He reminds me of Luis Figo. I like him very much.

"Grealish on the left, Mason Mount as the number 10 and because I like the wingers to come inside, I would play Phil Foden on the right. I would play Foden, Mount, and Grealish."
