Thomas Markle will today claim he did nothing wrong in his treatment of daughter Meghan Markle, after working with a paparazzi agency to stage pictures of himself before her royal wedding.

The 76-year-old will appear on Australia's 60 Minutes programme later to discuss the hurt he feels after Meghan and Prince Harry – who he still hasn't met – cut him out of their lives.

He's yet to meet grandson Archie or new baby granddaughter Lilibet, even over video-chat, and hasn't spoken to Meghan since two days before her 2018 wedding.

But he still doesn't understand what he did wrong in order for him to be shut out of their lives.

"I've made mistakes. I apologised a hundred times for it," Thomas tells Channel 9 interviewer Tom Steinfort.

"If I had done something terribly wrong, that would be fine, but I haven't."

Thomas, who was caught staging snaps of himself being measured up for a wedding suit and reading online articles about Meghan before her nuptials, still insists he's "confused" about what soured the "great relationship" he once shared with his daughter.

"The bottom line is she didn’t lose me, she made a statement saying she lost me, she didn't lose me. I would've always been there for her, I'm there for her now if she wants me," he went on.

"I'd like to say again. I'm sorry for what I've done. This was two years ago. But I've tried to make it up to her. I'm now only 70 miles away [from where she and Harry live in California].

"I've never stopped loving her. I don't agree with all the things that my children they do. But I will always love them. And I certainly love Meghan," he added.

Asked whether he thinks Meghan still loves him, Thomas replied: "I haven't spoken to her since two days before they got married."

Thomas insists he doesn't know what soured his 'great relationship' with Meghan

"I made one dumb mistake," he continued.

"You want dirty laundry? It's the first time I have discussed these things."

However, Thomas has spoken several times in the past about his mistakes, not least in a Channel 5 documentary that aired in the UK early last year.

In it he claimed to have been set up by a public relations expert who said he could boost Thomas' image with the staged pap snaps.

"He told me 'they are going to love it and they are going to love you.' I didn't do it for money. I did it to change my image," Thomas said at the time.

He also confessed to lying to Prince Harry on the phone about the pictures, admitting: "I'm not proud of that, but I did."

But he also said he was still making money from the images, saying: "The reality is that those images will sell forever."
