Sex Education season 3 launch date confirmed as Netflix offer first look at new series

Netflix have finally confirmed a launch date for the new series of Sex Education starring Gillian Anderson.

Season 3 of the much-loved show will drop on the streaming service on September 17 with eight brand new episodes.

According to the synopsis for the new series, it’s a new year and Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield) is having casual sex, Eric Effiong and Adam Groff are now an official couple, and Gillian's character Jean has a baby on the way.

Meanwhile, new headteacher Hope (Jemima Kirke) tries to return Moordale to a pillar of excellence, Aimee (Aimee-Lou Wood) discovers feminism, Jackson gets a crush and a lost voicemail still looms.

Netflix have told fans of the hit show to "prepare for commitment animals, alien phenomena, vulva cupcakes and much more of Madam Groff".

New cast members include Jason Isaacs playing Peter Groff, Mr Groff’s more successful and not very modest older brother; recording artist and songwriter, Dua Saleh who joins in their acting debut, playing Cal, a nonbinary student at Moordale; and Indra Ové who plays Elsie’s foster mum Anna.

Accompanying the launch date news were some first look images at the upcoming season, which show the teenagers in their grey school uniforms.

Taking to Twitter, Netflix wrote: "The wait is almost over! Sex Education Season 3 premieres September 17 — FIRST LOOK."

Fans were delighted with the news, with one person commenting: "really hope s3 is worth the wait, bc it was torture."

Another wrote: "YESSSS. Love this show!" while a third added: "It's like you timed this for back to school season."

However, some Twitter users were more focused on the cast wearing a new school uniform.

"glad to see they're representing the ridiculous uk school kilts girls have to wear," one penned.

Another tweeted: "Petition for Moordale's Uniform become a merchandise!!!!!! I really want to have it."

Other Netflix users were keen to find out when the next season of Stranger Things and You would be dropping.

This month, Stranger Things star David Harbour said filming was set to wrap in August.
