The BBC’s popular soap EastEnders has hit a new low with its worst ratings to date as the soap struggles to compete during Euro 2020.
All the soaps have suffered huge scheduling disruption to make way for the footie matches this summer and all three heavyweights – EastEnders, Corrie and Emmerdale – have made their episodes available for binge-watching online.
The effect of the football has become clear in EastEnders' latest viewing figures as last week an episode of the show pulled in just 1.9million viewers.
On Monday night that dropped even further to just 1.4m – which is the lowest figure recorded in the BBC’s soap’s 36-year history.
The episode aired on BBC Two and faced competition from coverage of the Euros and Wimbledon. The figures only cover viewers who watched live and don’t include catch-up services like iPlayer.

In its peak days, EastEnders could draw in around 20 million viewers for every episode, but recent years have seen these numbers hugely decline.
The ‘big three’ soaps have been hit hard by the constant change in scheduling due to the Euros but it’s EastEnders television ratings that seem to have been hardest.
However, EastEnders has pulled in a massive 13.4 million episode views on BBC iPlayer – making it one of the most popular shows on the streaking platform.
Last night, EastEnders wasn't on TV at all as BBC one featured coverage of England's clash with Germany and Sweden against Ukraine, will BBC Two was taken over by the tennis.

A spokesperson for the show told Metro : "Since the start of Euro 2020, EastEnders have been dropping all episodes on iPlayer for the first time ever on Monday’s giving the audience the choice to watch when and where they choose so it’s no surprise that the overnight audience is impacted.’
"EastEnders has been streamed 13.4 million times in the past two weeks alone, making it one of iPlayer’s most popular shows."
Many soap fans have been left fuming over the disruption to the schedule, taking to Twitter to complain about the football taking slots away from their favourite shows.

One wrote: "Is the football over, cause it’s messing with my Eastenders schedule."
Another added: "No Eastenders this week feck off football."
However, others were pleased to see the episodes being put online all at once so they can watch them when they want.
One added: "I definitely prefer all the week’s Eastenders and Corrie episodes being put online in advance so that I can just watch them whenever I feel like it.
"It’s probably the only good thing about football that i’ve ever encountered."
EastEnders returns to BBC One tomorrow at 7..40pm.
