Kelsey Grammer has delighted TV fans by insisting he wants his original castmates to join him in the reboot of Frasier.

Fans of the hit sitcom were upset when plans for the remake – which could be on screens as early as the New Year – were said to involve just Kelsey as psychiatrist Frasier Crane.

The award-winning actor, 66, is now "fairly confident" David Hyde Pierce, 62, Jane Leeves, 60, and Peri Gilpin, 60, will come back for the Paramount+ channel comedy.

Sadly, John Mahoney – who played Fraiser's dad – died in 2018 and so there will be an empty chair where Crane patriarch Martin Crane once sat.

David played Frasier's brother Niles, while Jane starred as Daphne Moon and Peri played producer Roz.

Kelsey said the show could go on without the original cast, but he would rather have them all back.

He told Collider : "We have a story to tell that can actually be told with or without them, honestly, but I want them back because that's what I always dreamed of."

He added: "We think we're going to get most of the actors back, I'm certainly hopeful that we will, and I'm fairly confident that they'll come back.

"I thought we should explore all their lives in their third act, and so that is my hope."

The actor went on to reveal there's currently no start date for production to begin, but he's confident Fraiser will be back on TV next year.

He said: "Well, we don't actually have a date when we're going to start filming.

"We're still kind of breaking the story a little bit, we're doing a polish now…

"When will we see a Frasier? Probably in the first quarter of next year.”

Frasier was the well-loved 1990s American sitcom which ran for 11 seasons, winning over audiences and critics alike.

During its run, Frasier won 37 Emmys as well as other accolades and now, the show is making a comeback.

Frasier originally ran from 1993 to 2004 and was a spin-off from successful comedy Cheers.

Talks of Frasier coming back to our screens was first revealed in 2019 as Kelsey was in talks with different networks pitching the idea.

In June 2020, the main cast of Frasier appeared for a virtual reunion to reminisce about their days working on the show, while also raising money for The Actors Fund to help actors who lost their jobs due to the coronavirus pandemic.

While the subject of the reboot came up at the time, none of the stars commented about their supposed involvement.
