Arsenal and Chelsea have been put on alert by the situation of Sergio Ramos following his Real Madrid departure.
The 35-year-old is a free agent after his 16-year career in the Spanish capital came to an end earlier this week, and he is now on the lookout for a new club.
Paris Saint-Germain have been the overwhelming favourites to land the talismanic defender, who would command a sizeable wage despite arriving without a transfer fee.
It has been widely reported that Rene Ramos – Sergio’s brother and agent – has been negotiating terms of a two-year contract in the French capital, but that has yet to bring about an agreement.

That has now put the London duo on alert, with the Gunners already said to have made contact with the representatives of Ramos as they weigh up a shock move for the Spaniard.
Chelsea are also said to be keeping tabs on the situation and could potentially swoop for the central defender if he does not put pen to paper elsewhere.
The situation is outlined by Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo, who cite reports from Goal that the state of play for Ramos is not as clear as it appeared several days ago.

It had been claimed that the defender would sign a two-year deal with the Parisians, where he would essentially serve as a replacement for Thiago Silva – who left a year ago as a free agent to move to Chelsea.
The protracted contract negotiations between Ramos and Real Madrid dragged on with the club captain seemingly miscalculating the club’s position – seemingly believing that they would give in to his demands.
Ramos was said to be intent on receiving a two-year deal – Madrid were only offering one season due to the player’s age – while he was also said to be reluctant to give in to the 10 per cent pay cuts being brought forward across the club.

Whilst it was expected that the two parties would find some form of middle ground, this did not materialise and by the time Ramos ceded ground to signal his willingness to sign a new contract – the club had withdrawn it due to the timeframe.
This had coincided with Los Blancos completing the signing of David Alaba – another free agent following the expiration of his contract at Bayern Munich.
Nacho Fernandez and Eder Militao also hit a strong run of form in the closing weeks of the season in the absence of Ramos and Raphael Varane.

Madrid’s financial issues meant that the decision to allow Ramos to leave would ease the strain of the club’s wage bill and allow them to retain other star players, although it is increasingly that Varane too will leave this summer with his contract expiring next year.
Ramos was also left out of the Spain squad for this summer’s European Championships after he had experienced injury problems in recent months.
