EastEnders star Nina Wadia, 52, has lifted the lid on her possible return to the BBC soap as Zainab Masood.

She played the Masood matriarch from 2007-2013, and was last seen when Zainab's marriage broke down with husband Masood Ahmed (Nitin Ganatra).

Asked if she would consider coming back to the soap after eight years, Nina revealed she is convinced it will happen at some point – but she would discuss it with producers in due course.

"I know I'll step back into the Square in the future," she told Inside Soap.

"I've been asked back a couple of times but the timing wasn't right. It has to be a joint decision between EastEnders and me."

Nina also previously claimed BBC bosses asked her back before, in 2016, but she turned it out because she was starring in another role in America.

"They [BBC bosses] did [ask me back] last year, actually they did," she said.

"But I was doing a pilot out in the States and I said I couldn't do it, I'm still waiting to hear on that [pilot]."

Elsewhere, Sonia Fowler has dropped a big hint her mum Carol and daughter Bex are soon returning to Albert Square.

Sonia, who is a nurse, was recently rocked by the shock arrival of her father, Terry Cant, and they are attempting to build a relationship with each other.

And Sonia (Natalie Cassidy) made a reference to her mum and daughter meeting him soon too in a recent episode of the BBC soap.

Terry was trying to show off his salesman skills after watching Billy Mitchell on his market stall.

He managed to sell a pair of boxing gloves, and Kathy Beale watched on as Sonia approached, catching Terry boasting about his skills.

“I don’t do the hard sell,” Billy said, defending himself.

"It’s not about selling the stuff, it’s about selling yourself," Terry bragged.

“What’s all this?” asked Sonia.

“Your dad’s showing Billy how it’s done,” said Billy.

“He’s certainly got the gift of the gab, he’s managed to wear you down,” Sonia replied.

Kathy then pointed out Terry had managed to “wear down” Sonia too, as he managed to get her to let down her guard.

“Yeah, I can’t wait for Bex to meet him now,” Sonia said.

“Although I do have to tell mum he’s back first.”

“Good luck with that one," Kathy told her.

EastEnders airs Mondays and Fridays at 8pm, and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One
