Two police officers have been taken to hospital after allegedly being assaulted at a shopping centre in West Bromwich.

New Square Shopping Centre confirmed arrests had been made following the dramatic episode at the retail complex, which reports suggest was a stabbing.

A witness said one of the male officers suffered a 'bad injury to his neck', BirminghamLive reports.

Pictures from the scene show police surrounding what appears to be an officer receiving medical attention on the floor.

Remnants of a police officer's uniform, including their vest and helmet, were left on the ground as police cordoned off the area.
